Swiss Visions - A New Generation of Architectural Expressions
Exhibition of video and sound installations
The Japan-Switzerland Architectural Culture Association (JSAA), established in 2018 as a platform for architectural cultural exchange between Japan and Switzerland, hosted an exhibition of video and sound installations by four Swiss architects: BYJUNG / Truwant+Rodet+ / WALDRAP / Weyell Zipse at the AXIS Gallery from March 29 to April 14.
The opening was attended by Mr. David Braun, Minister-Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy, and architects Mr. Christian Weyell and Mr. Kai Zipse. Under the patronage of the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the exhibition focused on video works, models, drawings, collages, and photographs. In order to reduce carbon emissions as much as possible, only digital information was transferred from Switzerland to Japan for this exhibition, thus exploring the next generation of exhibition methods.
Swiss architectural expression can give a strong impression of stoicism, with abstract drawings and realistic renderings. In recent years, however, Switzerland has been creating a powerful and fresh architectural expression that is a departure from the past, with colorful drawings, collages, and exquisite figurative models.
The exhibition focuses on video works, including models, drawings, collages, and photographs produced by each architect, and introduces new architectural expressions created by the architects to express their concepts. In order to reduce carbon emissions as much as possible, only digital information will be transferred from Switzerland to Japan for this exhibition, thus exploring the next generation of exhibition methods.
As the third event of the Japan Swiss Architectural Culture Association (JSAA), which was established in 2018 as a platform for architectural cultural exchange between Japan and Switzerland, the exhibition will introduce new architectural expressions by young Swiss architects.

About Japan Swiss Architectural Association
The Japan Swiss Architectural Association (JSAA) is a platform that will share cultural qualities and technologies in contemporary architecture. The association aims to invigorate both Japanese and Swiss architecture through its annual program including lectures, academic workshops, and exhibitions, which will be open not only to the architectural professionals but also to the general public.
As Swiss architecture has recently attracted more interest in Japan, it has encouraged many Japanese university students and architectural professionals to study, work and teach in Switzerland until today. In order to continue and develop the exchange between Japanese and Swiss architectural cultures, JSAA will play an active role in stimulating dialogue through our events, including exhibitions and symposiums.
