Under Your Smell
A project by ECAL and Jean Paul Gauthier in Asia for the first time, at Shibuya Parco
Under Your Smell, an immersive photographic exhibition created in collaboration with ECAL and Jean Paul Gaultier, will be held for the first time in Asia at Parco Shibuya this spring, after having traveled to Paris, Miami, and Lausanne. Don’t miss out on this world’s acclaimed exhibition.
Experience and celebrates gender diversity and new definitions of beauty
ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne is back in Tokyo, collaborating with PARCO, a major culture and fashion hub, to bring you a spectacular exhibition around Jean Paul’s Gauthier perfumes. From May 30 to June 9, check out the Under Your Smell exhibition that received huge acclaim in Paris, Miami, and Lausanne. Under the direction of Florence Tétier and Nicolas Coulomb, Bachelor Photography students from ECAL explore beauty, identity, and gender through stunning still lifes, monumental fabric prints and giant image cushions that invite the public to lie down.
Join us also for the opening party, including a talk event with Mahieu Calypso (Photographer, ECAL), Tomoki Koizumi (Fashion designer) and Yuri Abo as moderator (editor of IWAKAN) on May 29 as we celebrate gender diversity and new definitions of beauty and body expression at Shibuya PARCO 10F ComMunE.

Under Your Smell ECAL
Under Your Smell exhibition offers a truly immersive experience exploring notions of beauty, identity and gender. Under the direction of Florence Tétier, Jean Paul Gaultier’s creative director, and Nicolas Coulomb, photographer and consultant for Novembre Magazine, Bachelor Photography students at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne offer a visual interpretation of Jean Paul Gaultier’s perfumes. The brand’s perfumes are at the heart of the installation. The young photographers have deployed this subject by creating still lifes with contrasting textures: liquid, dry, organic and inert, evoking the components of the essences and the design of the bottles. In a series of staged images, perfumes become the backdrop for stories of transgressions and fantastical projections. The exhibition offers a hypnotic and immersive experience through monumental fabric prints and giant image cushions that invite the public to lie down to celebrate gender diversity and new definitions of beauty and body expression.
