On June 28th, the Peace Symposium “1970→2025: What is a Harmonious Society?” will be held at Suita City Cultural Hall. David Braun, Minister-Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Switzerland in Japan, will appear as a special guest, sharing insights including examples from Switzerland. This symposium is part of the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo International Exchange Program, inspired by the 1970 Osaka Expo’s theme, “Progress and Harmony for Mankind.” Speakers include Professor Emeritus Akihisa Matsuno of Osaka University, Senior Officer Akiko Horiba of the Nippon Foundation, and Professor Kyoko Okumoto of Osaka Jogakuin University, discussing conflict resolution and peacebuilding. In conjunction with the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, the City of Suita—host city of the 1970 Osaka Expo—has organized a symposium reflecting on the theme of the 1970 Expo, “Progress and Harmony for Mankind,” while also taking into account today’s global landscape. The symposium will explore the concept of a “harmonious society” in our modern world.

Three internationally active experts will take the stage to discuss the realities and underlying causes of conflict, as well as the perspectives needed to resolve them. The discussion will include case studies from Switzerland, which is Suita’s partner country in the Expo International Exchange Program.

Additionally, David Braun, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Switzerland in Japan, will join the symposium as a special guest.
