The Future of Air Traffic

Enhancing the sustainability of air travel

Join us for a future-focused symposium exploring the evolution of air traffic systems and the rise of advanced air mobility. Featuring keynote addresses from leading experts including Prof. Eri Itoh (University of Tokyo), Dr. Naoki Matayoshi (JAXA), and Dr. Peter Lenhart (ZHAW), the event brings together thought leaders from Japan and Switzerland. Panel discussions, poster sessions, and a live flight simulator demo will spark dialogue on next-generation operations, ecosystem design, and human-machine interfaces. This is a unique platform for academia, industry, and government to collaborate on the future of air transport and mobility innovation.

On this dynamic and forward-looking day, there will be a symposium dedicated to the evolution of air traffic systems and the emergence of advanced air mobility solutions. At 10:10, Prof. Eri Itoh from the University of Tokyo will deliver a keynote on the future air traffic system, providing insights into next-generation concepts and Japan’s strategic vision. This is followed at 10:30 by a keynote introducing “ReAMo – Realization of Advanced Air Mobility,” exploring a pioneering initiative shaping the air mobility landscape by Dr. Naoki Matayoshi from JAXA.

A panel discussion at 10:50 will convene experts from Japan Airlines’ Future Lab, Narita Airport’s Future Vision Division, JAXA, spaceport operators, and Swiss and Japanese collaborators to discuss operational models and ecosystem design for future air transport.

Poster Session #1 at 11:30 offers a closer look at ongoing research and development projects, followed by a networking lunch break at 12:00.

The afternoon resumes at 13:00 with a keynote from Dr. Peter Lenhart, ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences. His keynote will focus on how to improve cockpit instruments for future trajectory based flight operations. At 13:20, Dr. Lenhart will also lead a live demonstration of a “Highway in the Sky” flight simulator application, showcasing human-machine interface innovations.

After a coffee break at 13:40, Panel #2 at 14:00 will discuss future avionics, featuring contributions from JAL Future Lab, NABLA, NEC, JAXA, and international partners. This will be followed by Poster Session #2 at 14:40, before the event concludes at 15:00.

The symposium offers a unique opportunity for collaboration and exchange between academia, industry, and government in shaping the future of air mobility.
