The “WIRED Futures Conference 2025,” which brought together top domestic and international players shaping the Quantum Age, kicked off on Day 1—Quantum, September 29. Switzerland participated in Session 2, emphasizing the importance of cross-border collaboration and international synergy.

In a lively panel moderated by Akihico Mori (Science Journalist and Contributing Editor of WIRED JAPAN), the speakers Thomas Schulthess (Director, Swiss National Supercomputing Centre CSCS), Alexandre Pauchard (CEO, CSEM), and Nobushige Oguri (Deputy Director, Digital Infrastructure Solutions Development Division, Softbank) explored the current state of the Swiss and Japanese quantum ecosystems.
The session highlighted Switzerland’s startup-driven, open industrial model, while Japan showcased Q-STAR as an industry-led approach to implementing quantum technologies. Both emphasized the importance of international collaboration in the quantum field.

With a Swiss delegation in attendance—including State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation Martina Hirayama; Ambassador Roger Dubach; Vice President of the University of Zurich Christian Schwarzenegger; and Chair of the Programme Committee for International Cooperation at the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Brenda Kwak—the session highlighted the growing anticipation for Switzerland–Japan collaboration in quantum technologies.
