Vitality.Swiss Midsummer Art Night @ Mame Romantic Tokyo

with Milian Mori and Sophie Guyot

The Embassy of Switzerland in Japan is pleased to invite you to a special night of creativity, artistry and innovation at Mame Romantic Tokyo (Haretara Sorani Mame Maite), in presence of digital performer and DJ Milian Mori and contemporary artist Sophie Guyot. Come celebrate the vitality of the Swiss creative scene and connect with the Swiss-Japanese community around some drinks at one of Tokyo’s best curated venues for music and club culture.

Technology meets nature, binary meets fluids, algorithm meets spirituality, machine meets human: composer and digital artist Milian Mori integrates dance, algorithms, pixels, and club music into stunning live sets. For artist Sophie Guyot, light(ing) has proved to be a favorite material, throughout installations both large and small that explore the relation between humans and their biotopes. Part of Milian’s Japan tour, and ahead of Sophie’s presence at Nakanojo biennale 2023, both artists have responded to the invitation of the Vitality.Swiss program to give exclusive performances at Mame Romantic, Daikanyama’s prime location for alternative culture.

Sophie Guyot’s project “Dancing With Kaoru And My-other-self” will be on display at Nakanojo biennale 2023 from September 9 to October 9, 2023. Exploring customs and myths of mountain regions, the project proposes to draw an imaginary cultural line between Switzerland and Japan. The resulting installation, using video as a medium, will create resonances between carnival masks and traditional dances from both countries, blurring the lines between alter egos and community members, fiction and reality.

Milian Mori is a composer and digital artist based in Switzerland. As part of his solo work, he integrates dance, algorithms, pixels, and club music. In the last 12 years Mori has developed a musical language that aims to expand, project and reinterpret dance music's common vocabulary. Milian shares his deep interest in combining mathematics, geometry and data with emotion, dance and fulfillment: technology meets nature, binary meets fluids, algorithm meets spirituality, dualism meets triality, machine meets human, randomness meets self- similarity. All of his works are trying to open the space which exceeds dualism. His art doesn’t want to answer, nor does it aim to question.
